Hair masks for shiny glossy hair

  Scalp care is important as it determines the health of scalp and hair. Natural ingredients rich hair masks help to keep your scalp and hair healthy and nourished. Hair masks also impart natural shine and glow to your hair as they intensely moisturize the hair.

   Hair fibers consist of three components namely, the cuticle, the cortex, and the medulla. Layers of cuticle cells form the outer sheath of the hair fiber, a protective barrier for the hair. Cortex forms the bulk of the fiber. Repeated shampooing could result in damaging structures at the hair surface. Hair care products available in the market contain many ingredients with various effects on the hair. Some hair care products are harsh and damage the hair making it appear dull, frizzy and lusterless.

    Hair masks strengthen your hair, protect it from breakage. Hair masks may help to provide nutrients to hair and repair it giving moisture. Various types of natural hair masks contain ingredients which nourish the hair .The most commonly used hair mask are  that of aloe Vera, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, honey , banana etc. Many organic instant hair masks also are available in the market.

    Coconut oil, an important ingredient of hair mask has protective effect on hair damage as it can penetrate into hair cuticle and cortex.


Natural hair masks

1.    Aloe Vera hair mask

Use either aloe Vera gel bought from market or aloe Vera gel  extracted out of the plant.

·       Mix 3-4 tbsp aloe vera gel [depending on your hair length] with 2tbsp coconut oil  and 1tbsp olive oil.

·       Stir well and apply the mask on your scalp and hair gently. Use a wide toothed comb to spread it all over the length of your hair. Do not rub it on your hair as friction may damage hair roots .

·       Keep it on your hair for 30 minutes so that the nutritional properties of aloe vera and oils may nourish the hair well.

·        After 30 minutes wash with a non-sulphate shampoo  or mild herbal shampoo .

·       Let air dry the hair.

This hair mask may leave your hair soft, shiny and silky. Aloe Vera is intensely moisturizing to the hair  and remove the dryness of hair. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover aloe Vera contains antioxidants also.


2.    Banana and honey hair mask

·       Mix half slice of mashed banana and  1 tbsp honey well.

·       Add 3-6tbsp coconut oil into it depending on the amount of mask needed for your hair & stir well.

·       Apply on your hair and wash after 30 minutes with mild herbal shampoo.

    This hair mask helps to restore shine and lustre to dull, lifeless hair. Banana is rich in antioxidant vitamins and it conditions the hair and make it glossy and shining.

   Coconut oil and honey are intensely moisturizing. Coconut oil can penetrate into hair cuticle and cortex and moisturize   the dry frizzy hair making it soft and shiny.

3.    Avocado hair mask


·       Blend half part of an avocado pulp made into a paste with one egg, 2tsp of olive oil and 3tbsp of milk.

·       Mix well all these ingredients well into a creamy paste.

·       Apply the mixture all over the hair staring from scalp.

     You may increase the quantity of the ingredients depending on the length and volume of your hair. Keep it for 15-20 minutes and wash off with water and mild shampoo.

This pack will give you shiny smooth and silky hair .It may also strengthen hair roots and promotes  hair growth improving circulation and cleansing the scalp.

 Avocado repairs damaged hair improving the health of scalp and hair follicles due to the richness of B –complex and C & E vitamins. Avocados are rich in folates and minerals such as magnesium and potassium.          Potassium promotes faster cell renewal and make your skin look young.It promotes hair growth improving cell renewal on scalp. Magnesium is also essential for hair growth and increases firmness of skin. Avocados are good source of magnesium which improves the health of hair follicles.
