Health benefits of cycling

   Cycling is an important mode of transport as well as an instrument for exercise cum hobby. Cycling is associated with numerous health benefits directly and indirectly.

Cycling is adopted as a mode of transport by many Western countries in an attempt to mitigate climate change and pollution. It is also a known sports item. People do cycling as a part of their exercise routine too. Although purposes are different cycling helps in burning your extra fats, reducing obesity and allied health risks.

Some studies have demonstrated a decrease in depression symptoms while others have demonstrated an overall increase in emotional well-being and happiness in people do cycling regularly [2,3].

Cycling as an active mode of transportation has shown to have indirect benefits for health as it reduces air pollution and thus respiratory and cardiovascular disease.

Health benefits:

·       Reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke and cancers.

·       Reduces blood sugar level in type2 diabetes.

·       Improves mental fitness& cognitive health.

·       Improves strength, balance posture and coordination of body.

·       Cycling is an aerobic workout. Aerobic exercise also triggers the release of endorphins, which make you feel better and improves mood.

·       Cycling strengthens muscles :

Gluteus muscles in the buttocks, the quadriceps in the thighs, and the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles in the calves, the hamstrings in the back of the thighs and the flexor muscles in the front of the hips. Cycling works other muscles of the body also. 

      Include cycling as a hobby or exercise routine for a healthy living so that your body and mind always remain healthy and fit to undertake new tasks with joy and enthusiasm. Cycling helps tremendously to improve your productivity and quality of life.
