Ferrum metallicum

Constitution

Delicate chlorotic women with fiery red face, irritable sanguine temperament, haemorrhagic diathesis.

Easily agitated by least contradiction [ anac, coc,ignatia].

Oversensitivity slightest noises such as crackling of paper [ asarum.E, tarentula.H]

Indications

Anaemia

Anaemic women with pale face, lips and mucous membranes. Easily flushed face and lips on least emotion, pain or exertion. Blushing [ Amyl, coca].Chlorosis with erethism.

Better by walking slowly, however weakness compels them to lie down.

Vertigo

Confusion and heaviness in the head; dizziness on seeing flowing water, on walking over water as when crossing the bridge[lys].vertigo on descending [ borax,sanicula].

Vertigo with balancing sensation

Headache

 Recurring or periodic headache with hammering, beating, pulsating pains with desire for lying down. Pulling pain from nape of neck.

Gastric ailments

Increased hunger or loss of appetite may be there, with extreme dislike for food.

 Regurgitation of food immediately after eating; sour acrid vomiting.

Diarrhoea after eating or drinking. Painless diarrhoea. Diarrhoea with undigested stool at night.

Constipation with ineffectual urging, hard stool followed by back ache and severe pain in rectum. Contractive spasms in rectum.

constipation from intestinal atony. Rectal  prolapse in children.

Pruritus ani at night.

Respiratory affections

Cough usually in the daytime [euph]. better by lying down, eating.

Hoarseness and roughness in the throat; cough after a meal with vomiting.

Asthma with fullness and tightness of chest. Midnight asthma ,must get up from sleep; better by sitting up.

Female sexual

Uterine haemorrhages with anaemia; bright red blood coagulates easily[ ipecac,ferr .phos,phos].

Too early profuse and long lasting menses leading to anaemia, fiery red face, ringing in ears,

Intermenstrual bleeding-pale, watery debilitating.

Dyspareunia in women. Swelling and indurations of vagina.milky corrosive leucorrhoea; Abortion and sterility.

Dropsy or oedema

Oedema after loss of vital fluids, abuse of quinine, suppressed intermittent fevers[ carbo veg, china]

Ferrum met is one of the best remedies for  overdosing with quinine and its bad effects.

Rheumatism

Rheumatism of left shoulder and deltoid. Paralytic weakness of limbs with tremor and restlessness.

General modalities

Aggravation- night, rest , while sitting ,rest

Amelioration-walking slowly, summer.

Mental characteristics

Anxiety, peevishness.irritability slight noise drives to despair.irritable sanguine temperament.

 Hilarity alternating with sadness.

Drug relations

Complementary -Alumina ,cinchona

Vegetable analogue- cinchona

Follows well- cinchona

Contraindication- syphilis; this drug seems to aggravate the disease.
